Bill has been working in agriculture since 1976 where he taught home gardening for four years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Swaziland. He apprenticed at the UCSC Farm and Garden Project in 1982 and continued to work in agricultural endeavors in Wisconsin, Missouri, Davis, CA and was most recently a partner in Blue Heron Farms of Watsonville, CA. Bill sees the future of agriculture encompassed in a more human scale. He is committed to sharing what he has learned with others as well as learning with them. Bill continues to be amazed by each season's unfolding and enjoys seeing plants and people growing together. He also likes good fiction and an occasional round of golf. Debra began her farming career picking tomatoes at Molino Creek Farm near Santa Cruz, CA and just couldn't stop returning to the field each spring. She and Bill met at Blue Heron and moved to Oregon in 1992 to start their partnership in Horton Road Organics. Having learned hands-on, Debra enjoys helping apprentices discover and develop the wide array of skills that come together in becoming a farmer. She loves working with the harvest and creating unique works of art at the Farmer's Market. She also enjoys walks in the woods, craft projects in winter and practicing her new violin. Her work continues to be influenced and supported by her studies in Zen Buddhism.
