Apprentice Living...

Welcome FriendsEvery year, we hope to create a harmonious situation that better fosters our work based on mutual respect, good communication and tolerance. Guests of the farm may include up to 4 to 6 Apprentices & Staff who are provided renovated rooms in an old Barn.

Facilities:

Apprentices living space is very intimate with nature! Good sized private rooms are unheated, have electrical outlets & nice views. There is also a heated living room, small kitchen fed by spring water, a bathroom with composting toilet, old-fashioned hand crank washing machine and outdoors solar shower. It's a little like upscale camping in a barn and applicants should be prepared for the natural inconveniences this incurs. Apprentices have access to the main household during specified hours for washer/dryer, Internet access, and library. There is a separate phone # and message machine in another outbuilding for our crew.

Meals:

The farm provides a set list of basic organic (almost 100%!) ingredients necessary for a healthy vegetarian diet. Foods not provided by the farm can often be purchased wholesale or in bulk from one of the local natural foods stores. Cooking responsibilities can be rotated among the group creating wonderful farm meals. We have at least one monthly farm dinner and meeting together, with opportunity for more shared community meals among apprentices and staff.

Location:

We are situated in a rural area surrounded by distant houses and forests in various states of logging and regrowth. There are several swimming holes within 5 miles, hiking or biking in the hillsides. Many past apprentices have also enjoyed planning trips to the coast (1 hr.drive) or to the Cascades (2+ hours). Eugene, OR is a 45-min drive, a good town for music, cafes, shops, education and new friends. The nearest bus line to Eugene is a bikeable 15 miles. Those without cars may be at a disadvantage but usually hook up with others with vehicles or catch a ride with weekend market trucks. The Willamette valley is also known for its intense grass pollens in spring and those with hay fever usually have uncomfortable late spring symptoms that subside in July.
